While DT Nguyen was president of MedAssets' revenue cycle and claims management business (now FinThrive), he discovered waste, disorganization, and care disparities driving up the cost of healthcare.
He knew there had to be a better way to manage population health and brought a team of seasoned healthcare engineers, developers, and data scientists together to bring his ideas to life.
In 2012, Koan Health was born to empower ACO leaders and providers with the tools and data-driven insights to deliver better outcomes and lower costs across each population. “Koan” honors the philosophy and contributions of Hippocrates, the renowned Greek physician who’s been called the father of medicine. At his school on the island of Kos, near the western coast of Turkey, Hippocrates trained physicians in a unique, patient-centered approach to health and healing.
The school placed great emphasis on observing and documenting the patient’s family history, environment and condition. By recording symptoms—like complexion, pulse, fever, pains, movement and excretions—and treatments in great detail, Hippocrates and his students created valuable records to guide ongoing care and teach new physicians.
